Section 1 - Business case / commitment

  • Has a clear business case been made for the adoption of a whole organisational approach to literacy, langauge and numeracy, in order to meet organisational priorities?
  • Are the Board, Chief Executive and Senior Management team committed to developing a whole organisational approach?
  • Has this commitment been articulated and communicated across the organisation?
  • Has responsibility for literacy, language and numeracy been allocated across the organisation (i.e. to key leads and managers, not just one or two people)?

Examples of evidence

  1. A robust business case presentation is made to the Board, Chief Executive and Senior Managers
  2. A public statement of commitment supporting the LLN agenda is made by the Board / Chief Executive / Chair
  3. A communications strategy supports the dissemination of this commitment across the organisation and with other partners in the wider community
For example, HR Director, Clinical Director, Estates and Facilities Manager, NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework Leads, Equality and Diversity Leads
