'Employability defines the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours required by individuals to seek, obtain and sustain employment at all levels in the labour market.' (Skills for Business Employability Project, 2007).
For individuals, employability skills are key to getting, keeping and doing well in a job.
For employers, finding (and retaining) individuals who have employability or job readiness skills that help them fit into and remain in the workplace requires a clear understanding of what these skills are and how they may be developed.
Employability skills include:
Behavioural: enthusiasm, adaptability, resilience, thoroughness;
Functional: IT end user, literacy, language, numeracy;
Intellectual: planning, problem solving, self management, organising own learning;
Work related: team working, time management, customer service, consistency and reliability.
