Can you be flexible?

In the health sector it is important that managers look for ways of offering training in a flexible way.

With so many people working shifts, it is unlikely that they will all be available at a set time and in a set place.

Things to consider include:

• Whether you could set up an area with computers, internet access and a quiet place to study.

• If you're short of space, think about an 'e-bus', bringing training to the doors of your learners.

Burton College in Staffordshire, with funding from the LSC, have used this method successfully.

• Perhaps you could set up a website for learners, along with your local college.
  

McDonald's have set up Our Lounge, which contains lots of useful information and access to skills development areas.

David Fairhurst, McDonald's vice-president, says "It brings a new convenience to learning and removes the barriers of travelling to college".
