Personal development reviews (PDRs)

The annual PDR is the main way by which organisations will know if every member of staff is competent in their job.

It enables organisations to map the skills of the individual against the skills of the role, identifying skills gaps (including LLN) and implementing the KSF.

LLN challenges

However, implementation can be challenging. Both the PDR and KSF rely heavily on good LLN skills in order that staff can participate and engage in the process effectively, including those line managers who are reviewers.

LLN skills underpin the acquisition of competences - staff who are reluctant or unable to engage in this process put the quality of service delivery and improvement in jeopardy.

Look at the KSF and development review process book.  Using the SMOG test (in the external links box opposite) work out at what reading age it is written.  Using the statistics on the 'Levels of LLN explained' page (see related pages box opposite), how many people would be able to read and understand this?
