Supporting employability

Pre-employment

There are a variety of schemes which involve learning and career advice and which aim to assist people into employment.  For example,

Induction

Some health sector organisations are offering support at induction.  New staff are informed about what is available and skills checks are carried out accompanied by sensitive information and advice.  This enables staff to access suitable training or improve their LLN skills, thus making them more likely to succeed.

Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) and the Performance Development Review (PDR)

To ensure employability in the NHS staff must ensure that they have the competences for their relevant levels of the KSF.  Information and advice should be available either from the appropriately trained manager, who is undertaking the PDR, or that manager should know to whom the member of staff may be referred.  Similarly, those levels of support should be available at KSF gateways.
